The Inaugural Australasian Policing and Human Rights Conference seeks to examine and highlight policing in the 21st century, where human rights, safety and new threats to security are at the forefront of viable and effective policing. The Conference will:

  • examine policy and practice in a number of key areas
  • analyse the impact of recent developments in specific human rights legislation, including relationships with other jurisdictions which do not have such provisions
  • examine the experience of jurisdictions that have specific human rights legislation, and the reforms that have been implemented

Some of the key issues that will be discussed include: the challenges/benefits of specific human rights legislation on policing; and areas within policing that have been most impacted.

The Conference will bring together leading experts (researchers as well as practitioners) from varying perspectives and across different jurisdictions.

Specialist interactive breakout sessions will concentrate on operational policing, as well as community engagement concerning new threats to security and the demand for better intelligence.
